Final: No. 6 Li Na defeated No. 5 Francesca Schiavone (6-4, 7-6) in the French Open Final to become the first player ever from China to win a Grand Slam title. With the win Na will move up to No. 4 in the world, which is the highest ranking ever for a player (male or female) from Asia.

After the match Na said, “Amazing. I got a text message from my friend. They said they were crying in China because they saw the national flag.”

An amazing year thus far for the woman from Wuhan Hubei, China. No doubt.
