The Tampa Bay Rays are 94-63.
The New York Yankees are 94-64.
With only 4 games left we still don't know who's going to win the AL East, but we do know that both teams are going to the playoffs. One will go as the division champion and the other as the Wild-Card.
For the Rays this will be their second-ever trip to the postseason. They were the 2008 AL East champions and the American League champions. So no doubt that simply making the playoffs means a lot more to them than to the Yankees. I guess we can say, they are just starting to build their resume.
As for the Yankees, well, making the postseason is an expected occurrence every year. In the Yankees universe, anything less than a World Series title is unacceptable.
But just in case anyone is counting--
This will be the Yankees 49th trip to the postseason. Their resume looks like this:
- 27 World Series titles
- 40 AL Pennants
- 15 AL East titles
- 3 Wild-Cards
But who's counting?
