Future queen and current No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is cruising at the U.S. Open.
So far she's won her First Round match ( 6-1, 6-1) and her Second Round match (6-0, 6-0).
And with World No. 1 Serena Williams out of the tournament with a foot injury, the stage is set for Wozniacki (currently No. 2 in the world) to win her first Grand Slam title and quite possibly take over the No. 1 ranking.
There is no question Wozniacki has been on a tear lately. In the month of August she played 4 tournaments in 4 weeks and won 3 out of the 4. It's mind boggling how she can play so much tennis, week after week, at such a high level.
But we all know the U.S. Open is much more fierce and the best in the world are here.
We already know Serena is out, but--
- We know No. 2 Kim Clijsters, the defending champion, is on the hunt.
- Two-time champion, No. 3 Venus Williams is still lethal.
- No. 4 Jelena Jankovic and No. 5 Samantha Stosur are on a mission to win their first Grand Slam titles.
All these women and a host of others are great players and any one of them can easily win the title but Wozniacki is the one grabbing all the headlines right now. She has officially become the darling of women's tennis. Well, at least in my book.
And there is no doubt that all eyes are on her.
I mean how can anyone not root for her? She is extremely likable, always has a smile on her face and her talents are endless.
I get the feeling we will be hearing her name for many years to come.
But first things first. There's still a lot of tennis left at the Open.
GOOD LUCK Caroline!
