As I stated in an earlier post on August 13, their hostile takeover of the NL East was inevitable. To put it simply, the Phillies have too much everything.
As a fan, who's "favorite" team (New York Mets) dwells in the NL East, I decided to face the music a while back. Only the Atlanta Braves (80-60) remained in the conversation, but I knew sooner or later the Phillies would swallow them up also.
Good try, Atlanta, you held your own for most of the season, but the time has come to face the music. Philly is just simply too good. It was just a matter of time before they bulldozed past you also.
Let's see, it took exactly 26 days from the day I wrote the post for the Phillies to be officially in first place. Not bad. The Braves actually held on longer than what I thought.
And as for the rest of the NL--
Roy Oswalt (5-1, 2.30 ERA, 0.99 WHIP) since joining the Phillies.
The Roy Halladay-Roy Oswalt-Cole Hamels trio is going to be lethal come the playoffs.
So yes, my fellow NL Easters, it's still Philly's world and we just living in it.
