Zack Greinke Wins AL Cy Young Award!

Congratulations to Zack Greinke!

2009 American League Cy Young Award

A No-Brainer!

Greinke (16-8), 229.1 IP, 2.16 ERA, 242 K, 3 SHO, 6 CG

Greinke is the 3rd Kansas City Royals pitcher to win the Cy Young Award. He joins Bret Saberhagen (1985, 1989) and David Cone (1994).

Greinke received 25 out of 28 possible first-place votes (3 2nd-place votes). Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners received 2 first-place votes (23 2nd-place and 1 3rd-place) and Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers received 1 first-place vote (9 3rd-place votes).

In other words, the voters got it right!

Nobody deserved it more than Greinke. Period!

  1. Good for the voters to buck the normal trend of giving it to the player with the most wins. ERA and K's to Inning ratio is a better indicator of the best pitcher in the league than wins. Still surprises me though, I really thought the voters were going to give it to Felix Hernandez.
