World Series: The Phillies Need A Lifeboat

New York Yankees 8 - Philadelphia Phillies 5, Game 3
New York Yankees 7 - Philadelphia Phillies 4, Game 4
Yankees lead series, 3-1

Jorge Posada Congratulates Mariano Rivera

What can I say? Baseball fans have been seeing this view for a long time.

Ryan Howard - 17 AB, 1 R, 3 H, 2 2B, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 10 SO, .176 BA
Raul Ibanez - 16 AB, 1 R, 3 H, 2 2B, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 9 SO, .188 BA

Yankee lefties (C.C. Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, Damaso Marte) have completely manhandled Howard and Ibanez. Combined, they have o home runs, 3 RBI and a whopping 19 strikeouts. With this kind of production from 2 key bats in the lineup, the Phillies ain't going nowhere against the mighty Yankees. Period!

Perfect and Not Perfect

Mariano Rivera:
Game 2 - 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 0 HR, 0.00 ERA
Game 3 - 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 0 HR, 0.00 ERA
Game 4 - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 0 HR, 0.00 ERA

Brad Lidge:
Game 4 - 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 HR, 27.00 ERA

The numbers don't lie-- Mariano Rivera has been perfect. Brad Lidge, in his only game (a crucial game)-- screwed up-- big time! Had Lidge been able to hold the score at, 4-4-- who knows what could have happened in the bottom of the 9th inning. And more importantly-- no Mariano Rivera. Where Lidge goes, the Phillies go!

Now the Phillies have their work cut out-- big time!

  1. Well, after predicting the Phillies would win after game 1, it looks like my pre-playoff prediction of the Yankees winning the World Series will come true after all. I do believe the Phils will win tonight with another dominating performance from Cliff Lee, but I don't see Pedro or Cole stepping up and getting it to a game 7.
