World Series Game 2: The Empire Strikes Back!

New York Yankees 3 - Philadelphia Phillies 1, Game 2
Series tied, 1-1

A.J. Burnett (1-0) - 7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, 0 HR

A.J. Burnett outduels Pedro Martinez

But more importantly Burnett hands the ball to Mariano Rivera who pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning. No bridge was needed today and the Yankees escape the Bronx, tied 1-1.

Solo Home Runs

Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui provide Burnett all the runs he needed by each hitting solo home runs. This sounds like a carbon copy of Game 1. A masterful pitching performance (Cliff Lee, A.J. Burnett) and two hard-luck losers (C.C. Sabathia, Pedro Martinez) who pitched well enough to win. And 2 solo home runs (Chase Utley) were the difference. Very interesting so far.

Where's A-Rod?

So far, Alex Rodriguez' first World Series experience hasn't turned out the way he expected. A-Rod is 0-8 with 6 strikeouts. Ouch!

The Yankees bullpen may not be the only cause for concern. If A-Rod doesn't get going, major trouble may lurk ahead for the Yankees. The Phillies can go toe-to-toe with the Yanks in a slugfest and if A-Rod is going to be a lame duck, it just may be a long winter in New York.
